Introduction

In partnership with East Street Arts and Finnish Artists’ Studio Foundation, we welcome applications from Finnish artists or artists based in Finland for a one-month residency in Leeds, England, in October 2024. We will support one artist’s visit to the UK to research and develop their artistic practice.

The artist will be hosted at East Street Arts’ Convention House building, focusing on Art, Environment, and Technology. The residency would suit an artist focused on one or all of these areas of their practice.

Theresidency is process-focused, and no specific outcome is expected. However, a sharing towards the end of the month would be welcome. Whether you have exhibited or worked in the UK before, this residency offers an opportunity to experiment, enhance your skills, and expand your network.

About the organisations

East Street Arts believes in the transformative power of artists to effect positive change. Our mission is to support and empower artists by providing affordable spaces for artistic practice, tailored artist development and sector research, and curated public engagement programmes. Additionally, we host the UK’s first Art Hostel, a unique space designed entirely by artists.

We actively encourage applications from individuals who are underrepresented in the arts. We particularly welcome applications from LGBTQIA+ communities, disabled individuals, neurodiverse people, and those from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Self-identification is entirely up to the applicant.

Finnish Artists’ Studio Foundation is an organisation dedicated to secure and offer reasonably rated working facilities and studio apartments for visual artists and to otherwise take part in enhancing their working conditions. The Foundation also promotes artists’s opportunities to work abroad by providing residency programmes, a guest studio, and studio buildings abroad. The Foundation also takes care of coordination and information tasks of the FAIRE Finnish Artist Residency Network.
